Option Worbench 4.0 Release Notes

  • New Look and Feel -
    • First as you see the color scheme and logo have been changed. The Navigation panel has been replaced by a Navigation Menu bar. This provides more screen real estate for the content of the application. The Navigation bar contains a menu button for each toolset that was formerly on the Navigation Panel. To activate a menu simply move the cursor over the desired toolset and click on the desired tool. To return to the Dashboard Page, click the Home button on the menu bar.
    • There is also a search field for quick access to the details for a particular name. When typing in the search field a popup menu will appear with completions for the symbol as you type. Once the symbol is complete press the enter key or click the search button to select the asset for analysis.
  • **NEW** Earnings Data
    • The earnings data is incorporated in many places throughout Option Workbench. The first integration is using earnings dates in a profile filter. Each Spread Profile now contains the next earnings date for the underlying. For example, to include Naked Puts whose expiration date is prior to the next earnings date use ExpDate < NextEarnings. Earnings dates marked with a green check have been confirmed by the data vendor, Wall Street Horizon, Inc.
    • Another important use of earnings data is in constructing the empirical probability density when performing probability analysis. The Probability Analysis menu allows you to filter earnings dates from the data used to construct the histogram.
    • The earnings data has also been integrated into the Volatility Study. To add earnings dates to the study open the Volatility Details viewer and click the "Add Earnings Dates" button. The chart now marks each earnings date and the dates can be used in the other volatility analysis tools.
    • A new earnings analysis report has been added. The report shows a detailed statistical analysis of the earnings data in tabular and graphical form. This report can be used to formulate earnings trades as well as evaluate the potential effects of an earnings announcement on existing positions.
  • Position Editor Enhancements
    • Several changes were made to the position editor to make it easier to change a position under analysis. There are new drop down menus that allow you change the expiration date, strike price or option type of any leg in the position.
    • The size of the position can be changed in the table listing all positions being analyzed by double clicking on the size field and entering the new size.
  • Position Creation
    • The order ticket window allows you to create a new position or add the current order to an existing position. This allows you to manage multiple positions on the same underlying simultaneously. This applies to orders submitted to a broker or entered into your Option Workbench vAccount.
  • Position Management
    • Orders can be deleted from a position. This is useful for paper trading or what-if scenarios where you want to change all or part of a position and re-evaluate the effects of making a change to that position.
    • An entire position can be deleted. This is useful for paper trading or what-if scenarios.
  • Portfolio Monitor
    • The new Position Detail Window show the details of each leg of a position include trade, market and P&L data. The familiar analysis tools are also available so that the risk of the position can be analyzed under current market conditions.
